delirious ramblings its snowing delicious

31 hours with sister, baby and louis in balmy chicago and then i was back on a plane this morning for temps in the teens and snow on the ground. ill be in the great white northwest for 2 weeks for consulting gigs in seattle and portland. working again feels good in theory but moving east 12 time zones has me jetlagged and two sleepless nights in tokyo spawned a sore throat and the anxiety of a super vulnerable immune system. pending obligations have me uncharacteristically alternating between venti-sized coffees and popping nyquil liquigels like codeine after a pesky cough. maybe this is why america feels weird?

my cocktail inspires weird dreams of the several-hour-hard-on variety. the most vivid had me at a huge archaeological excavation in some unspecified pan asian site. theres excitement and danger as i sift through priceless unearthed treasures, deciding which i will take home. at some point i start eating their fingers and heads and think they are tasty but am simultaneously repulsed as i am unsure if they are effigies or the real thing. guess ive been blessed/cursed with dreams that require little analysis.

the dream comes to me this afternoon while im in the midst of training facilitators for the nais annual people of color conference. the org has cajoled 3000 private school teachers and admins from across the nation to seattle and im paid to do 4 workshops on meeting their mixed heritage students needs. mixed people are annoying but the pay is good. (contrary to popular conjecture im not independently wealthy) im experiencing a familiar panic caused by my shoddy preparation just hours before showtime. tho theres also something kinda familiar and comforting about the adrenaline-fueled all nighter, im in a peculiar state of delirium and can only imagine how the impact of speaking english slow and simple for the past 3 months will reveal itself once im behind the mic. i need to bathe. lets face it cambodia and pakistan posts wont be up for weeks...
